Well actually, just so you know, it is not an established fact that it is not a deterrent. That’s a load of crap. There’s no way to prove it is and no way to prove it isn’t. Most of the states that don’t have the death penalty have generally smaller populations than those who do and second there are so many underlying factors (such as gun laws, race division, and other things) that it is impossible to track whether the death penalty is a deterrent or not. But I would rather risk having the death penalty rather than risk not having it and finding out that it is.

Second We are NOT the only modern country with the death penalty. That’s bogus. We may be one of three “advanced” countries with it but we are NOT the only one in the entire world who has it.

We have triple the murder rate of Britain? Aren’t we like 30 times britain’s size? So, is that saying anything?

Who’s cheering for war? Did I miss that somewhere? Everywhere I look people are griping about the war and saying we want out of it.

Look up your facts next time because you are SOO wrong.

(Oh and just so you know we are ranked 89th on the list for the number of intentional homicides by country, with El Salvador being the highest and Palau being the lowest.)

mat: this is a pro. he’s saying that if you execute the murderers but don’t manage to stop further murders, then all you have done is kill the murderers. however, if you do not execute the murders but manage to stop further murders, you have killed the innocent victim (in that they feel that they have been betrayed with injustice). John McAdams claims that he prefers to risk killing murderers than killing innocent victims.

To John Henry: It’s an established fact that the death penalty is not a deterrent to murderers. Similarly, the Earth revolves around the Sun. Just facts — not up for debate.

[Note: the United States is the only modern country in the world that has the death penalty, AND just-so-happens to have the highest murder rate than any other modern country -- so the death penalty is obviously not a deterrent.]

The reason the death penalty exists in the United States — and in NO OTHER modern country — is the very same reason the United States has TRIPLE the murder rate of the next highest country (Britain) and the same reason Americans keep invading countries all over the world (killing hundreds of thousands of civilians), and cheer it on like it’s a football game.

Americans are the most violent people in the modern world. That’s why.

The death penalty is caused by the very same thing that causes America to have the most murders and be so militaristic; Americans are blood-thirsty and out of control.

A sensible person would not run across the M25.
They would look both ways before trying to get across.
Or if they were really sensible they would n’t even try!
Why?
Because (providing there were no hold ups and traffic was flowing free) they would be in total fear of being injured!
I said sensible. So if someone plans a Robbery and carries a gun to commit the Robbery then the gun to kill someone to steal.
If they knew that they would be hung surely there is some deterent value in that?
