"The Lord" says all kinds of things that can be quoted to fit virtually any situation. It is a shallow mind that relys on the quotes of people who wrote in the name of "The Lord". How about this gem: Leviticus 24:16 - anyone who blasphemes the name of the LORD is to be put to death. The entire assembly must stone them. Whether foreigner or native-born, when they blaspheme the Name they are to be put to death.

There you go. The death penalty is good to go.

The death penalty is grossly under utilized. What makes the current death penalty so disturbing and difficult to justify is the appeals process that can lead to a convict being on death row for decades. That is unconsionable and I would say torturous. Two appeals over a maximum of five years and no more. Repeat felony offenders should be given no more than two felonies before the death penalty is implemented. The vast majority of criminals don't commit crimes by accident.

This is plainly cynic:

"I hate to say it, but one innocent being executed on inaccurate charges (every eighty to every hundred years) is better than three or more lost lives (every twenty or thirty years) whenever someone sentenced to life tries to run. The benifits really do outweigh the risks in my eyes."

If you "hate" you should simply not say it! I hope you are not the next innocent ( I do not hate telling you this) to fall in this trap. (yes, the so called justice).

I don't know of any cases of convicted murders who have escaped from a life sentence in a State prison, as claimed by Elizabeth. There are instances of murders who have escaped from some of the privately run prisons as was recently reported out of Arizona. Also contrary to the opinion of Elizabeth, and some other persons who have bloged here, there have been several cases of persons who were executed for murder who later were shown by new evidence to have been innocent of the crime for which they were executed. Check with the Innocence Project for the details.

Condamner un homme pour un crime qu'il n'a pas commis;est un triple assassinat;

I am tired of those who are sentenced to life in prison escaping from jail and killing officers or other people as they try to get away. (I know for sure that this has happened several times in Texas alone.) It isn't right. Average time on death row in Texas is 10.26 years, which is also wrong. Change is needed badly. Time spent on death row needs to be shortened, and the death penalty needs to stay in order to save lives. I understand the fear that an innocent could be executed. I hope that no one wants that, but the odds of that happening are extremely low. It gets lower every year due to technological advancements. I hate to say it, but one innocent being executed on inaccurate charges (every eighty to every hundred years) is better than three or more lost lives (every twenty or thirty years) whenever someone sentenced to life tries to run.
Could well be GW Bush because the statement is actualy wrong (=stupid). Death penalty DOES NOT act as a deterent. As for Albert Camus, he did not belonged to the stupids, so firstly he was against death penalty and secondly he never said that. On the subject he wrote in "la chute" (approximate translation): "people will be convinced of your reasons, of the gravity of your acts only by your death. Untill you are alive, your case will be doubtful and you will only be entitled to their septicism."
